6 early signs of pregnancy you should know
Updated 25 Oct 2026
After waiting a long time for good news, you have recently noticed your body behaving a little "differently". You may be able to tell early whether you are pregnant from the following 6 signs:
- Implantation bleeding: Implantation bleeding usually appears around 10–14 days after the egg is fertilised. You can compare this timing with the date you had sex to check.
- A missed period: A late period is a sign of pregnancy based on your menstrual cycle. If your period is late, check for the hormone hCG with a home pregnancy test or see a doctor for the most accurate diagnosis.
- Needing to wee more often: If you often need to get up to wee at night, it may be an early sign of pregnancy. This is due to hormonal changes (the hormone hCG) and the growing uterus putting pressure on the bladder.
- Nausea: About 2/3 of pregnant women feel sick in the first three months of pregnancy. It is also one of the very early signs of pregnancy in the first 1–2 weeks.
- Raised body temperature: The hormone progesterone raises body temperature, similar to what happens around ovulation, so many women confuse the two.
- Sore breasts and changes in breast size: Another common pregnancy symptom is swollen, more sensitive breasts due to rising hormone levels. Your breasts feel sore and swollen, and in particular they get bigger than usual.
Signs of pregnancy also tell you that you are ready to enter pregnancy, with clear changes in your body. Knowing the risk factors and how to look after your body will help you have a safe pregnancy
