- Pesticides: Pesticides are a hazard to a pregnant woman's health, so you and your family should never use pesticides in your yard or garden at any point during your pregnancy.
- Hair dye: Hair dye contains many toxic substances such as phenylenediamine, aminophenol... If a pregnant woman inhales too much of these substances, they can cause uterine contractions that may lead to miscarriage and harm the baby's development.
- Hairspray and nail polish: Hairspray and nail polish contain many harmful ingredients such as phthalates, parabens, alcohol,... Breathing them in over a long period can give you headaches, dizziness and fatigue and leave you in poor condition, which can easily affect your baby. In addition, phthalates sprayed into the air and inhaled disrupt the body's hormone system and affect the development of the baby's reproductive organs while still in the womb.
- Honeycomb coal briquettes: Breathing in the fumes from these briquettes can make you see spots, feel dizzy and nauseous, or even faint from inhaling a lot of CO, as the blood reaching the brain lacks oxygen. This can seriously affect the health of the baby in your womb.
- Cigarette smoke: If you smoke during pregnancy, or even breathe in cigarette smoke, the nicotine level in your blood rises and passes through the placenta into the baby's bloodstream and then to the brain, causing abnormalities in the baby's neurological development. On top of that, because cigarette smoke is extremely toxic, if you inhale too much of it your baby is also more likely to develop respiratory illnesses, or to be born prematurely, be stillborn, or have hyperactivity disorders after birth.
- Petrol: Some mums-to-be find they like the smell of petrol during pregnancy. Others breathe it in passively when filling up at a petrol station. However, even just breathing in these industrial chemicals can affect the baby's nervous and respiratory systems to some degree. You should take steps to protect yourself and avoid breathing in petrol fumes.
- Other smells harmful to mums-to-be: Besides the smells above, many other smells can harm you and your baby when inhaled, such as strong perfume, car exhaust fumes, cleaning products... Your health and your baby's health are very important, so avoid these harmful smells as much as possible to protect you both!
