The golden benefits of exclusive breastfeeding in the first 6 months

Updated 25 Oct 2026

"Breastfeeding means nourishing your baby with your own precious milk. Breast milk is the perfect source of nutrition for babies, easy to digest and absorb.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and Vietnam's Ministry of Health recommend that babies be exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months, without any other food or drink, not even water. After 6 months of age, babies need complementary foods and should continue to be breastfed until 24 months of age or longer.

Believe that you are always capable of breastfeeding your baby, even if you did not succeed with previous children. All it takes is for mum and dad to be persistent, confident and to practise breastfeeding the right way. Doti will always be by the side of parents and baby.

Breastfeeding helps your baby:

- Grow and develop well and prevent malnutrition

- Protects your baby against infections

- Improves the emotional wellbeing of mum and baby

- Helps protect the mother's health

- Costs less than formula feeding

- Helps protect your child's health as they grow up.
