6 effective ways to do prenatal language stimulation at home

Updated 25 Oct 2026

Give your baby a name
Give your little one a cute nickname and don't forget to call them by it every day. This helps your baby gradually get used to their name and feel close and loved whenever they hear it.
Talk to your baby
This is the easiest form of prenatal language stimulation. When talking to your baby, remember the following rules:
- Talk to your baby every day about familiar topics such as the joys of the day, the love everyone has for them, your hopes for them…
- Use polite, meaningful and kind words
- Whatever is troubling you, put it aside and talk to your baby as lovingly as you can!
Describe everything around you to your baby
If your baby often hears you describe things, they tend to pick up language better. Specifically:
Describe the objects around you to your baby, such as: the bouquet dad bought mum for 8 March (International Women's Day), or the happy things that happened during the day, …
Sing to your baby
This is a "2 in 1" form of prenatal stimulation: both language and music. Don't be shy about singing your favourite songs to your baby!
Read books, tell stories and read poems to your baby
Keep some good storybooks and poetry books by your bed to read to your baby.
Note: use paper books rather than a phone or iPad, as paper books are better for your eyes. Paper books also have lots of funny, lovely pictures and beautifully printed text, which is good for prenatal art stimulation.
Expose your baby to a foreign language
Foreign-language stimulation is considered a more "advanced" form of prenatal language stimulation, because your baby is exposed not only to their mother tongue but also to another language. To do this, you can:
- Talk to your baby in the foreign language, using short, easy-to-understand sentences
- Read foreign-language books and stories to your baby
- Play foreign-language radio for your baby. Remember to choose content that is suitable for your baby!
