Week 2 of pregnancy

Updated 25 Oct 2026

Your baby's development

The first two weeks of pregnancy are counted from the first day of your last menstrual period. In fact, you are not really pregnant yet at this stage; it is the period of preparation for fertilisation and for the baby to implant. This process has some important milestones:

Day 1: the first day of your last period.

Day 14: your body may be ready for ovulation and fertilisation. Ovulation usually happens on day 14, but it can vary from person to person.

During the few days around ovulation, if you have sex without using contraception, the egg will be fertilised. Within 5-6 days after ovulation, the fertilised egg travels into your uterus to implant.

And congratulations, you are now pregnant. At this point your baby is still tiny, at the level of cells, so you won't feel much.

A pregnancy test will not be positive yet at this point, because the pregnancy has to grow bigger before a test can detect it.

Your body

At this stage your body usually shows no particular outward changes, but some vague health changes may appear, such as tiredness, changes in taste,... Let's keep following along together.
