Your baby's development

Your baby is about 36.6 cm long and weighs about 875 grams. Your baby is getting chubbier, with the skin folds filling out with fat under the skin. The organs are also maturing to prepare for life outside.

Your baby can now blink, although they can't see yet. The jaw muscles and tongue are also getting stronger.

At week 27 your baby's hearing has developed to the point where they can tell apart their parents' voices from other sounds in the outside world. Your baby can also taste the flavours of the food you eat through the taste of the amniotic fluid.

Your body

Your uterus keeps growing, so your bump will get much bigger and your body heavier than before. Stretch marks and itching continue because of rapid weight gain. However, you need to tell apart itching from stretch marks and hives. If you get hives, see a doctor for a proper check-up.

Some mums may have mild swelling in both legs, especially the feet and ankles. If the swelling is significant, you need to see a doctor. Fainting and dizziness may continue. Lie down and raise your legs on a pillow when you notice these symptoms.

Your gums are still easily hurt and may bleed. A stuffy nose can be uncomfortable – oh, it's just like having a cold. But it will be fine, keep going!

Advice for you

Avoid standing or sitting in one position for long, and do gentle exercise. You can spend more time relaxing and focusing on positive things. Not only your baby but Momby wants that too. We've already come a long and exciting way together!
