Your baby's development
Your baby is now the size of an orange seed and has a tail:
At this point your baby is the size of an orange seed, about 2mm, with the early shape of an embryo, a bit like a tadpole, complete with a tail. Later on this tail gradually disappears.
The internal organs are also beginning to form from their earliest beginnings. The circulatory system of heart and blood vessels forms first. After that come the nervous system, brain and spinal cord.
This is an important stage. Any mutation that occurs could cause birth defects. So limit your exposure to harmful agents such as chemicals, and don't forget to take folic acid regularly
Your body
Early signs of pregnancy
This week you will notice quite clear changes in your body. Many mums feel tired, lose their appetite or feel sleepy. Your breasts may feel slightly tender, or you may feel a little nauseous when you smell an ordinary dish. Don't worry too much; rest, and this time will pass quickly!
Advice for you
If your breasts feel very tender, you can switch to softer bras.
You can see a doctor at this stage for advice on nutrition and on things to avoid during pregnancy.
